Car Seat Dilemma

So I have a car seat dilemma. It is about due time for Cruz to graduate to a convertible car seat. I know what your thinking, "Why in the world is he still in his infant seat?" His infant seat is built for babies up to 35lbs and I think 30 inches. Cruz is almost to the point where he can't stretch his little chubby legs out. I have been looking at a few car seats and the ones that I would love are over the budget (that would be my tight wad husband, Brendan's, budget). He would love not to spend over $100 on a car seat. Maybe I'm a name brand snob, but to me the car seats under $100 don't do it for me. One they're aren't as cute and two, it seams like I should be spending a little more money on my sons safety. Any advice on what car seat to buy would be wonderful. Especially if it convinces Brendan to up the budget a little (like to be able to by a Britax), but if you have found more affordable car seats that are cute and safe that would be great to. Come on us girls have got to stick together?

I just wrote this realllllly long comment and it didnt work and now I want to scream. I will try and say it all again in less words.
When we were going to get Kinsey's, I thought I really wanted the Alpha Omego Elite, bought it, brought it home and HATED it. Took it back and ended up getting an Evenflo one for half the price and LOVE it.

Take Cruz to the store and sit him in a couple to see what you, and he, likes!

Cosco 5-45 pound seat from Wal-mart. We have 3 now. It is what they came home in, it is what they still use (38 lbs, 22 lbs and 10 lbs). It is only $45 so for three kids we have only spent $135 (ever)! Best yet they look nice in the car because the are all the same.

safety ratings were all i cared about when we were looking into car seats for crew and let's be honest, britax just gets the best reviews. we got a britax roundabout off of ebay for 135 shipped. it was a year old model and a sports team themed cover but brand new and still not ugly at all. i LOVE it and plan on trying to find a similar car seat for trey. i'm not a brand snob but i want my kids as safe as possible in the car. so i'm willing to spend just a little more. good luck!!

I was just looking last night on craigslist.com you can find some good deals on there too. I found some Britax for a little over $100. I trust them If they come from a non-smoking, no pet home! Plus you can go look at it first. Good luck, let me know what you do cuz we are about to buy one for the summer!

We got the Safety 1st alpha omega covertable seat. I too didn't want to spend as much as Britax are, plus i think they're just huge! anyway, we got ours at costco.com for $99. I checked and it doesn't look like they have them online anymore, but you can get them at amazon, etc. I actually did see the same one at the actual costco store the other day. I've liked ours a lot...and really, does it really matter? Anyway, good luck...i know it's hard!

Really, I think it's more about you child's comfort than safety... Not that I don't care about their safety, but all car seats have to meet certain safety requirements to even be sold.

So maybe I'm being naive, but when I picked out our car seats, I was really more interested in which seats my kids liked. I don't want to be fighting with them everytime they get in the car because they don't like their seat.

Take him down to babies 'r us, sit him in all the seats, and see which one fits the best. Also, think about adjusting the straps, the easier it is, and more accessible, the better.

I currently have three Evenflo, and three Cosco seats, and I've never noticed any safety differences between them.

I don't know much about brands, but I did see a Britax sale here: http://www.albeebaby.com/britax-sale-items.html?gclid=CLPphcGD-JgCFQRhswods2mWnw

I think it's a good deal?

I was just at Target and looked at all the carseats and booster seats (Toby and I were curious how heavy a kid is before he switches to a booster). Anyway, they have this one that is a baby seat, carseat and then also a booster seat. It converts to all 3! It was probably more than $100, but if you like it, then you can use it for the long haul and it will save you in the end. Just a though.
